Last week, this Mama made a break for it! I ran away for 3 days with my BFF from waaaaay back. Don’t worry, it was a planned escape, and as you can tell I came back. I had a training for work in the Washington DC area and I did NOT want to fly. Tim couldn’t tag along on this trip because it was Miss Mackenzie’s first week of 4th grade (and first week of hip hop dance class – woot woot!). Thankfully, my best girlfriend since we were ten years old, Kelly, could come with me!

It couldn’t have worked out more perfectly since Kelly works from home, she can pretty much work anywhere as long as she has her laptop, internet and access to a phone. She worked while I was in my training, so she didn’t have to be worried about being bored. Then we had some adventures and site-seeing and drove back home.

As any good student of life, I learned some valuable lessons on this trip:

Always, always take your cell phone with you into the rest stop bathroom stalls. Especially those in the middle of freaking nowhere Pennslyvania. You may notice the woman in the stall next to you has 6 toes. Those babies were all painted pretty and in a flip flop too – to which I say, “You go girl!” but I still wish I would have been able to get photographic evidence.

I learned the scandalous meaning of the acronym POT.

I learned that 8 hours FLIES by when you have lots of catching up to do, some silly CDs to listen to, and old friends.

If you buy a pitcher of margaritas to share with just two people, your waiter will try to convince you to order a 2nd and call you out about your booty dancing at the table (probably in hopes of getting an even bigger tip).

Hot tubs are not nearly as fun when they are barely luke-warm tubs and 2 feet away from the lifeguard stand occupied by the creepy hotel lifeguard (PS has anyone EVER been to a hotel with a lifeguard for an indoor pool??) and his two creepy buddies.

You should not, under any circumstances, poor cups of water on the heating element of a sauna room without knowing for sure if it is a steam or dry sauna.

Teeny, tiny individual salt and pepper shakers are the cutest table-wear ever.

Arlington National Cemetery is freaking hilly! And that does not make this girl a happy camper. Next time I am buying the ticket on the little bus thingy. (My butt muscles were sore for 3 days!)

You will never appreciate more the vast patience and understanding of a girlfriend more than when you have to stop every 20 feet to huff and puff your big behind up a hill – and your tiny, bendy, yoga-princess BFF stops with you every time. And doesn’t make you feel like a complete heifer. That’s true love right there.

When you are 500 miles from home, double… nay! triple check that you have your keys before you lock your car doors!

A related lesson: when the security guard give you the option of waiting for the police to come jimmy your car open or go ask the cab drivers for their help, it’s probably because the cab drivers are a better idea. Do not wait for hours for the police (who never showed up) before you finally wise up and get the tiny Asian cabby to come to your rescue.

Sometimes, a couple days away make the world seem just a little bit brighter.

Here are some photos from Arlington National Cemetery – a beautiful and moving place to visit.

Seeing this sight, you can not help but be overwhelmed by the sacrifice of so many for this country. And you can’t help but be so proud to offer your thanks and to honor their memories.

The whole place is just stunningly beautiful and peaceful.

Oh my heavens, my son has apparently been studying Houdini in his spare time. This boy can figure out a way to get hid diaper off in any given clothing situation. And really, what are diapers if not a straightjacket for your privates?

It all started in regular footie zip-up pajamas. We noticed he would unzip them at night and wake up looking like Elvis circa 1975. Just a few nights of that turned into unzipping and taking the diaper off – which was more like an Elvis impersonating stripper circa 1975. So we tried snap jammies – no dice. Separate tops and bottoms jammies – I think he may have gotten those off before I even fully closed their bedroom door. The boy has managed to take off diapers put on backwards (so the Velcro tabs were in the back), jammies where the zipper was safety pinned up, non-footie PJs on backwards, and once even got his diaper off while keeping his short on (during a nap). (I kind of imagine how he did this in my head and he always yells ta-da! in my imagination)

The amazing part is that he never pees on his mattress. I think he takes the diaper off after he pees because he doesn’t like the wet feeling. Or maybe he just likes being naked, which you can’t fault him for that.

So far, the only suggestion that someone gave us that we haven’t tried is putting tape around the tabs of the diapers. That kind of creeps me out, but it may be the only thing that works. As for now though, the situation just makes for eventful mornings where we don’t know if we’ll be greeted by full on wing-dang-doodle flying or not. He always seems quite pleased with himself in the mornings that he’s free flying. Which is good, because Miss Emma is quite possible less of a morning person that I am. If she could talk her first words every single morning would be, “but I don’t waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaana get up!!” It makes for a fun morning picture, one naked toddler happy as a clam and one clothed and grumpy toddler flinging herself around on her bed and shooting us looks that could kill.

P.S. Did you really think I would leave you with no pictures? Sorry, no pictures of the free willy in action because I can almost hear the teenaged James freaking out that his penis is on the innnnternetttttttt.

James before his strip show (sorry for the poor photo quality, it was dark and taken with a cell phone). But how can you resist the cute?

Emma pretending to sleep on the couch. This is one of the only sure fire ways to end a meltdown. Pretend napping is SUPER FUN when you’re two. When you’re 29, it’s real napping that is the most fun!

I have read lots and lots of articles and blog posts about what apps every parent needs on their iPhone. The apps do seem pretty sweet, but here are the two things 1) I don’t have an iPhone. I am deep into my love affair with my Droid. And 2) My toddlers are not old/advanced/patient enough to use the apps most of these articles discuss – kid-center play or learning apps. On my phone, I need the apps that help me keep my head screwed on or make the parenthood of twin toddlers a smidge easier. (Have I mentioned I think toddlerhood is the hardest stage so far? Oh, I have? Yeah. Still is.)

So, I bring you the apps for Android-powered phone that make my mommy life better!

1) Advanced Task Killer. Okay, this doesn’t seem like a mommy-app. At all. It’s not. But it helps me save my cell phone battery which is useful to me since I generally hate when my cell phone battery dies at the least convenient place. This happens a lot after my phone gets used as a light-up toy by two grubby-fingered hooligans.

2) Color note. I am a list maker. I feel good about myself when I can cross things off a list. Sometimes I make lists of things I HAVE to do anyway, just so I get the ego boost when I cross them off a list. Wake up in the morning. CHECK. Change diapers. CHECK and CHECK. This app lets me make virtual post-its with cross off lists. It makes me happy.

3) Endomondo. This is an exercise tracker for runners, walkers, bikers, etc. I don’t have the time for such pursuits (or that is what I tell myself). I do, however, put down some miles on countless trips to the zoo, COSI, the grocery store, or even the hundred trips it takes me to unpack the car after a weekend trip. This helps me track those trips, because they totally count as exercise. If you sign up, you can use a web interface for your account to track you work out sessions. There is also a social networking feature where you can challenge or encourage friends via their web interface.

4) Carr Matey. This is a fun pirate themed app that will allow you to set a GPS waypoint where you parked your car. Then when you come back, you use it to track where you are in relation to your car. It is awesome in those moments of panic with your arms full of shopping bags and babies and you can’t remember how many rows over from the store you park because you were also trying to remember who ate what for dinner and if James has pooped in the last 24 hours and if you stuck wipes in the diaper bag and if you did laundry so you have clean underwear to wear to work and if you paid the cable bill and if you took the chicken out of the freezer for dinner… and… and… and you get the idea.

5) Mobile Defense. This app lets you remotely lock down your phone completely if it gets stolen. You can also remotely make your phone make a horrible screechy noise even if you have the sound on silent (presumably if someone has taken your phone and they are still within earshot) and works will for me when a toddler stuffs your phone down into the couch cushions or in the garbage can. Currently the application has been pulled from the android market due to too much demand and not enough server space. It will return soon.

6) Facebook, Twitter for Android. Because I cannot even look at my laptop if the babies are around because they will be climbing me like a jungle gym to pound on the keys within 3.2 seconds. However I can usually tweet from my phone for a few seconds before something else needs my attention.

7) Google Maps. When the GPS is turned on on your phone, the Navigation featured is awesome. And without which I would probably be lost somewhere in rural Ohio at this very minute.

8 ) Keyring. This is a handy little app that allows you to import all of those shopper’s cards you have hanging from your key chain. It displays the barcode for the store to scan the screen of your phone. That way you’ll never not get the sale price because you forgot your card.

9) MotoTorch LED. The best flashlight application I have found. It uses the LED “flash” on the camera. In addition to a solid beam, you can set it to strobe or send Morse code.

beep beep beep Twins have me hostage and are forcing me to watch Yo Gabba Gabba. Send help. beep beep beep

10) Power Control. Okay, it’s not an application, it’s a widget that’s already on your phone. But this handy little widget allows you to turn on or off GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, Sync (Facebook, Email, Gmail, etc…), and adjust the brightness of your screen. Between this widget and Advanced Task Killer. You can greatly extend your battery life.

P.S. All these apps are free! FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! It’s my favorite price.

P.P.S. Thanks to FoxTwinsDaddy in all his geeky glory for helping with this post!

I am not an expert, obviously. Let’s just get that out of the way up front. I am not a mommy expert, I am not a product expert and I have not been paid by any of the companies I am going to talk about. *end disclaimer*

One of my good friends found out recently that her family is about to grow at double speed with the addition of twins this fall. I am so, so excited for her (and feeling kind of bad about venting to her about some of the more unpleasant twinny things before) and I know she is going to handle it really well. Actually if I was going to choose a friend who I thought could handle twins, it would have been her, hands down.

Anyway, we’ve been doing some chatting and even hit up our AWESOME mothers of twins club sale back in the spring. It’s made me think about all the stuff you have when you have twins. I remember thinking about what I needed and what to register for and never quite knowing what to do. So I thought I would make a list of the things I used/loved/didn’t like when I had two newborns.

- The Arm’s Reach Original Co-Sleeper. I feel like I did a ton of research on this one. Originally, I was going to get one of those “play-yards” with a twin bassinet attachment to use while the babies slept in our bedroom. Then I looked more carefully and saw they had a 15 lb TOTAL weight limit. If you’re lucky enough to have two 7 and a half pound newborns, you’ve done hit the limit. I found the co-sleepers when I was researching breastfeeding. The mini size is more common but seemed too small for two babies. Original size, ta da! This attached to the side of our bed, and the babies comfortably slept together in this until they were 3 months old. Middle of the night feedings were so much easier when you could sit in bed to do them! Also you could check for breathing every 3.2 seconds… or not unless you’re nutty like me.

- Kiddopotamus Swaddle Me blankets. We did NOT leave home without these suckers. Swaddling is magic, but babies are squirmers and I could never get a traditional blanket swaddle to stay on for more than a few minutes. These suckers Velcro down and stay on! My guys actually used these until there were no more bigger sizes to buy (I actually thought about taking one apart to make a pattern, increase the size and sew my own). They were 6 months old when we stopped using these, but they made sleeping a way easier thing for us. Plus they come in fleece or knit, have a preemie size, and even have some organic cotton options!

- Two Bumbo seats. I wish I would have gotten these sooner. You can use them to help babies sit up as soon as they can support their heads. We didn’t get them until later (maybe at like 6 months), but they were used all the time. Good for when you need to do something with one baby, you can put a baby in the Bumbo to sit with a toy for a minute. We also used them at meal times once we started baby food and cereal (sitting on the floor). We got the trays that went with them and ended up getting some for the babysitter’s house and one for Grandma and Grandpa’s house.

- Medela Pump In Style Advanced. Many of you know that breastfeeding my twins never worked out the way I had envisioned. So I pumped. And pumped. And pumped some more. This trusty machine was never far from my side for 4 months. I never got to exclusively breastfeeding, but my babies got some breastmilk and since they never latched, it was all from using this excellent pump.

- A swing and a bouncy seat. When my twins were born, we lived in a townhouse and did NOT have the room for two swings and two bouncy seats. It worked out well for us, because after a while, a baby would seem to get tired of the seat they were in, so we could do a switcheroo and they both were happy to be in the different seat. I would say we use the bouncy seat more often than the swing because it was so handy to use when you were alone with the babies and needed to focus on one, the other could be happy, content and safely strapped into the bouncy.

We ended up with A Graco Traditional Compact Swing. It worked well for us, the only thing I would have changed if I could was getting one with and AC adaptor so you didn’t have to have a supply of C cell batteries on hand. There seem to be several of those on the market now.

The bouncy seat we had was the Boppy Bounce In Comfort. This worked out well for us. I liked that it had a full circle base, which seems a bit more steady that just a half circle. It was better for the twins when they were newborns than the other more “sit up” style bouncy seats. As newborns, they just kind of flopped over in that style. The fabric was warm and snuggly which was good for our guys since they were born in the fall. There were two things that we didn’t like was that the vibrator/music maker part was not attached to the seat, it slid onto it in a specific slot and sometimes it slid out of the slot and wither fell off or part way off. The other thing was that the vibration would turn off after 30 minutes to conserve battery power. While I understand why it is that way, when we had a fussy baby who was sleeping in the seat, the sudden send to vibration definitely woke them up. It also used a lot of batteries, but they were also C cells, so we just bought the GIANT boxes of batteries.

- Playtex Drop-Ins bottles. If you are formula feeding or feeding expressed breastmilk. When I was pregnant I had the grand idea that I would be able to exclusively breastfeed, so I only had a few bottles of the Medela kind that came with my pump. When I realized the babies weren’t going to latch, I wish I would have switched to the Drop Ins system sooner. It eliminated a a lot of gas for the babies and this brand in particular seem to be carried in any store (even with a really limited baby section). It also made packing a diaper bag really easy because I just had to bring one bottle for each baby and a few liners.

- Two different patterned car seats. We decided not to get 100% matching car seats, just ones that went together in their colors. One baby always went in one car seat and the other in the other. This way we didn’t have to readjust the straps for the individual baby every single car ride. We had the Graco Snugride car seats because they were highly safety rated but not insanely expensive.

- Extra car seat bases. Our car seats had bases that they snapped into, which made getting in and out of the car much faster (especially good in the cold or rain). We had a 2nd set of bases for our 2nd vehicle, so switching cars was WAY easy.

- Strollers are a pretty subjective thing, so I just suggest you go out to a baby store with models and try some out before your babies are born and see what you like. Some people hate a front & back double stroller and some people think a side-by-side is way too wide. We had a Graco DuoGlider because we liked it best in the store and it was a good value. We didn’t use it as much as I would have thought, but I think if I had taken the babies out more on my own, I would have used it a lot more.

As for things I didn’t use or seem to need, this could be very different for each mom, these are totally from my perspective.

- You don’t need two baby bathtubs unless you have a helper and want to bath them at the same time. I just did one at a time till we moved into the bathtub.

- I seemed to have way more receiving blankets than I needed. Sure, I used them to lay out on the ground to lay on, for extra warmth in the swing or bouncy, etc. But I think because we used the swaddling blankets every nap and naptime, we didn’t need so many of these. I think you could have 8-10 and be perfectly happy and not have to constantly be washing blankets.

- Cute by expensive outfits. I love a newborn in a frilly dress or a tiny baseball player outfit as much as the next mom. But it also makes my brain hurt when I see that they costs $25+ and literally use less than a yard of fabric. And, if your family is like mine, you will end up with TONS of cute outfits for your twins as gifts. Our twins (like a lot of babies) had more clothes than they actually wore. Our babes spent a lot of their first 6 months in feetie pajamas because a) it was fall/winter and we live in Ohio b) they were comfy in them and c) the parental units were tired! If you NEED to buy cute outfits, check out a local 2nd hand store like Once Upon a Child or your local Mothers of Twins Club sales.

- Piles of toys. To be completely honest, beyond a handful of snuggly or music playing toys, our twins wanted nothing to do with toys until they were at least a year old. Even now, they would rather play with an empty 2 liter pop bottle or a laundry basket than anything else.

- Sleep positioners like these (nothing against this particular kind). We never needed them or found them useful in any way.

Anyway, those are just my 2 cents. Any other MoTs (Mother of Twins) have any imput?

This past week, I utilized some of my leave time from work to spend a week at home with the kiddos. I like to do this on a holiday week to maximize my time off and minimize my leave usage. Originally we were thinking about both parental units taking the week off and bumming around with the kids – maybe taking them to visit family members or do other various day trips. Unfortunately, Tim couldn’t get the time off of work, so I dipped my toe in the stay-at-home-mama pool. Just me, two toddlers and a sometimes moody 9 year old (okay, so maybe I was a just a teeny bit ready to go back to work).

I say sometimes moody because we are dangerously closer to the “tweener” age. Coolness in equal measure with attitude. Responsibility-wanting right alongside hormonal drama. Help me baby Jesus, I don’t know if I am ready for it! I’m sure this is exactly what my mom said when she said “someday you’ll have one just like you!”

The potential for an on-the-go week of field trips and adventures was there but complicated by the fact that it was hotter than the 7th ring of hell last week. It was 95 degrees outside by 10am which means no one was going to be a happy camper getting in and out of a hot car, let alone going on an outdoor adventure. I’m not sure if all toddlers are this way – but Emma and James are still really sensitive to heat. James especially gets flushed and lethargic pretty easily. Emma gets cranky – and if you have witnessed an epic Emma meltdown you know that we try to avoid crankiness.

I was a pretty mellow week that followed a distinct pattern. James and Emma let Mama sleep in till 8:00 to 9:00ish (HEAVEN). Everyone under two got a new diaper and then oatmeal and milk for breakfast then we played in the living room all morning. Emma and James had a ball exploring the living room because they normally play in the den. The living room had new couches to climb and a hallway to run back and forth down.

Emma LOVED standing on the couch and peering out the huge front window at the farm across the street. Our morning play time coincided nicely with the time the horses were out in the front field. She could stand and watch them forever – that is until she got distracted.

James discovered that it is hysterical to hide in the hallway just out of sight and then run out when you call his name. Honestly, seeing him crack himself so heartily made me love the game just say much. We discovered that short colored pencils work really well to scribble with instead of crayons because Emma and James love to try to eat the crayons and get tiny bits of colored wax in their teeth (blech!).

Not now Mama, I am creating a masterpiece here!

Please ignore the hastily discarded PJs in the background.

There was lots of coloring, climbing on new things, running in the hallways, jumping into the bean bag chair and wrestling.

Hehehehe, this is fuuuuuuun!

Mamaaaaa, Emma is sitting on my lap and I don’t like it one little bit!! Can you see me? I’m back here!

Nap time or FoxTwins Wrestlemania?

About the time that the babies went down for their nap was usually when I had to go drag Mackenzie’s behind out of bed. I promise you she would have slept till 3:00pm if I let her. We enjoyed nice lazy afternoons, sometimes including a nap – who says it’s not okay to stay in your PJs till dinnertime? When Tim got home we’d have dinner and all hang out for a while. Mackenzie and I watched several cheesy Disney tweener movies after the babies went to bed. We caught lightning bugs, watered the garden and even got to pick some “crops” as the sun went down.

All in all, not a bad way to spend a week.

It’s official!

Grandpa forgot his tie and had to borrow James’. Lookin’ good, Gramps!

Time for a man-to-man chat with Daddy.

No, James you cannot get married anytime soon.

Every little girl needs men that will do her bidding. Handsome men.

Man, we waited a long time for the love birds to get the reception. Kenzie was the only one who planned ahead.

Okay, now you know it’s been a long time because Grandma is trying to play video games. Obviously Mackenzie thinks her skills are lacking.

Well, if no one else is gonna dance, Mama and Kenzie are gonna get this party started!

Time for Emma to go on her walk with Grandpa.

Traaaaaaavis, come on down!

Troy and the Maid of Honor.

Shake those moneymakers Mr. and Mrs.!

Hey Aunt Cassie, hit the rock!

Don’t worry Great Grandma, I will cut your food for you.

Is it me, or are the parents of the groom really reeeeeeally happy?

He’s yours now, Emilee!

Double, double trouble. It was hot, hot, hot in the reception hall. James was getting cranky and had to get half naked. This was literally 3.2 seconds before total meltdown.

SMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCH!

Brian and his Mama, so sweet!

It was a beautiful wedding and reception. That pesky 7:00pm bedtime kind of cut into our time to party down, but we had a great time. Welcome to the family, Emilee!

I sure hope late is better than never, because I am pretty much always these days. I think these toddler times are quite possibly the hardest so far. Maybe not in the sleep deprivation way, but definitely in getting anything done. So I’ll use that as my excuse for my horrible bloggy absence.

Think back *cue wavy memory lines on a cheesy TV show* April. Gray skies, rainstorms and the trees are just starting to bud…

Our mascots are ready to roll! The best seats in the house, if you ask me.

Don’t we all just look fresh as daisies and ready to skip along the 3-mile walk? No? Hmmm…. I guess you’re right. It was a pretty gray and gloomy day for the march. In fact, the kind of day that you have to promise yourself a hot beverage and an afternoon nap just to bribe your own behind outta bed!

But once we got to the tent area at the start of the march, our spirits started picking up. Aunt Kelly met us, we saw some of the cool activities the March of Dimes had going on, and our hordes of fellow marchers started getting us pumped up!

And this, my friends, is the face of hard work. It’s SUPER GRANDPA! He pushed the mini-mascots the whole march and was only one of two from our fearless team who finished all 3 miles. Needless to say, our sag wagon was full!

I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge the sheer rock-out-loud-ness of these two ladies. Mackenzie walked probably 80% of the march and totally could have finished, but her Daddy and I made her hop in the sag wagon (under protest) because we thought she needed a break and some water. And Kelly. The hero of the day. She walked with Mackenzie the WHOLE walk. 1) Because Mackenzie recognizes the sheer awesome of Kelly and 2) Kelly knows that sometimes our ears need a break. Do I have the most awesome friends or what?

The post-walk revelry was super fun. Can you spot the juggler in the background? There was lots to do and the rain barely slowed the fun down. Two mamas and their babies here – and I think I am the luckiest one because I get to be in the middle of that sandwich!

We sure did have a wonderful time and raised some money for a wonderfully worthy cause, the March of Dimes! We were inspired by the stories of all the families we saw at the march. I cried a few tears for the families that saw their babies born too soon for this world. And I cheered for the babies who had to fight like hell to be the healthy, happy kids they are now. And we all hung on to each other just a little bit tighter.

Coming soon: pictures and stories from Easter, cousin Brian’s wedding to Emilee, and the update from the 18 month check up. Until then a few tidbits:

- Emma has adopted a small black purse of Mackenzie’s that she carries around on her shoulder at home all the time. Then the other night both the babies were being very talkative, so we called to chat with Grandma and Grandpa (just FYI, it is now totally UNcool to let Mama hold the phone for you while you talk), so Emma was walking(pacing) around the den wearing her purse, phone up to her ear and hand on her hip – she’s a very important toddler, you know. It makes me wish I had a camera implanted into my forehead to capture these moments.

- James had about a 3 week stretch where he totally freaked out when we left him at Mrs. Bekah’s house in the mornings. Total power down, starting with the face-crumple until he just kind of melted into a crying pile on the floor. I knew he perked back up within seconds of Mama and Daddy being out of sight, but MAN that is hard. Plus it was totally out of the blue – no routine change of any kind. And then *snap* just like that, he stopped doing it.

- Mackenzie was with us for her spring break, so we did lots of fun stuff for that week. It was awesome and warm most of the week, so we did some sidewalk chalk art, some backyard softball and some nighttime porch swinging. Once we taught her a tiny bit of form for throwing, she seems to have a pretty killer arm for 8 years and no practice. I could totally rock the elementary school softball couch thing, couldn’t I? We could be in for an adventure soon!

- Also Mackenzie has now decided she is the premiere authority on which boys are cute. She doesn’t (yet) agree with my stance on Mark Harmon, but she will see the light someday.

- The babies like to play with my mind. They will say words or phrases as clear as day, and then refuse to say them again. Or at least never when I have the video camera out. The two best are James shouting “Go, go, go!” when we get into the car (please Jesus, don’t let him be a racecar driver. And if he is, please let him be one of the ones who makes tons of cash to support his poor old mama). And yesterday Emma said to the dog, “Hi, Char! Woof, woof, woof!” (Charlotte is often called Char or Char-char Binks in our house).

That is all! More stories with pictures soon to come!

Okay, okay, if you promise to go to our website (http://www.marchforbabies.org/team/t1372276) and donate to our March of Dimes, March for Babies team (Pretty please! Even $5 will help so much!), I will share two pictures of overwhelming cuteness!

This picture reminds me of the “Milk-a-whaaaaa?!” E-trade commercial.

I know I’ve written about premature birth before on this blog. I have thrown some stats your way (I can’t help myself, it’s my job!) and some cutie pictures of my just barley preemie newborns. I want people to understand how big this problem is, but the issue is, I don’t even fully comprehend the depth and scope of premature birth myself.

I know the stats about premature births, like I said that is my job (like the one I get paid for). I know the risk factors when you’re talking about whole populations. I can tell you how it felt to hold my two 5 pound babies and wonder how in world smaller babies could actually be real. I know just the twinges of worry and doubt about your babies’ weight, growth, development.

But what I don’t understand is why one mom over another mom just like her has a preemie and one has a full term baby. I don’t understand spending all your waking hours in a NICU and going home to an empty nursery praying to bring your baby to their real home. I don’t understand the crushing worry that your baby’s lungs are forever diminished and wondering if this cold could kill her. I don’t understand the unfathomable strength it would take to keep breathing after your baby was taken from you. I don’t understand.

And because I can’t understand, I’m going to walk. I’m going to walk for Emma Catherine and James Daniel to celebrate them. Celebrate that they can walk and talk and sing and hug me goodnight. I am going to walk for the twin moms who I know who spent hours, weeks, months of their lives living and breathing the NICU. I’m going to walk for Maddie who has inspired thousands of other people to walk too. I’m going to walk for Victoria who spends her time carefully tending to the tiniest lives and fights for them just as hard as anyone can. And I’m going to walk for the March of Dimes because I believe they will help us make sure that one day ALL babies will be born healthy.

But I’m not walking alone. All across the country thousands and thousands of people are going to be walking for babies. Team FoxTwins will be walking 3 miles here in Ohio. Emma & James will be walking (okay, riding) along with Mama, Daddy, Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Cassie, and (honorary) Aunt Kelly. Please, please take a minute to check out our March for Babies website. Your support is so important to us! Think about walking with us, or donating to our march. Even just a couple dollars would help us toward our monetary goal and our lofty, visionary goal for all babies to be born healthy. And above all, please pray for us as we walk, pray for the families of preemies, pray for all babies.

Thank you for your support! It means more to us than you know.
